Our Philosophy

One of the first things that attracted Randy Florke to The Catskills and Lower Hudson Valley was its lack of pretension. It is an area of aging farmhouses, “Mad Men” midcentury dwellings, and country cottages that lead to a family-owned general store in the center of town via a covered bridge. Upstate New York reflects the life style of a simpler time.  The Rural Connection and its agents show you solid old houses, midcentury master pieces, workable farms–often with outbuildings on site–and the occasional country estate with acreage as far as the eye can see. If you’re looking for a house with character, perhaps a barn to renovate, if you relish quiet, a quaint village that offers local fare and maybe a little land to cultivate, if you consider the absence of neighbors a little piece of bliss, then we can explore together and find a place for you.

The Rural Connection is the source for interesting country properties in Putnam, Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, Sullivan Counties and beyond. We recognize that many real estate searches begin and end with an Internet search engine. While this search can be an extremely helpful tool, at The Rural Connection, it is only a starting point.  We listen to you. By combining your property wish list that we create together and the online search list, we curate a list of memorable properties for you to view whether you want to renovate a “handy man’s special” or move right in to a period marvel.

Our goal is to make your search for a weekend house as unpretentious and relaxed as is the glorious landscape around you.
