converge in Sean Maloney and Randy Florke's colorful town-house kitchen. "This isn't the kind of home you'd fill with Chippendale furniture" says Randy. "But it has nice simple lines and a great location." The revamped Victorian provides Sean with an easy commute to Pennsylvania Avenue, where he is a senior member of the White House staff, and gives Randy, a Country Living contributing editor, a "country house" to enjoy whenever he and his 10-year-old son, Jésus, go to Washington.
New crackle-glaze ceramic pulls revived the kitchen's existing built-in cabinetry. Thick planks of 120-year-old barn wood make a handsome countertop. Randy tempered the room's strong country flavor with urban elements, including touches of easy-to-clean stainless steel and a microwave tucked conveniently into the wall.
